Dangerous Drugs - Wellbutrin
Wellbutrin is the brand name for a generic antidepressant called bupropion. It is often used as a smoking cessation aid under the brand name Zyban. Like many antidepressants, Wellbutrin was found to increase the incidence of suicidal thoughts and actions, seizures, liver damage, and other mental problems.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked manufacturers of the following antidepressant drugs to include in their labeling a Warning statement that recommends close observation of adult and pediatric patients treated with the drugs:
- Prozac (fluoxetine)
- Zoloft (sertraline)
- Paxil (paroxetine)
- Luvox (fluvoxamine)
- Celexa (citalopram)
- Lexapro (escitalopram)
- Wellbutrin (bupropion)
- Effexor (venlafaxine)
- Serzone (nefazodone)
- Remeron (mirtazapine)
